When this client moved into her space it was dull, drab and anything but fab, and with her being a fun single girl, we definitely had to turn it around. Our client's biggest concern was comfort. She needed to have a comfortable place to come home to after a long day on the job. Every wall in the condo was painted a caramel brown, a nice neutral, but this space needed a breath of fresh air. A cooling spa blue was selected giving the room a tranquil, calming feel. Mounting the drapes slightly higher than the window helps to draw the eye up showing the height of the ceiling and by changing out the furniture to something less chunky and heavy it really opens up the space. The living room also houses the home office which is set up next to the media cabinet, but when guests come over the desk opens to a full size table providing extra room for entertaining. Fun accessories help to liven up the space and add that touch of charm a single girl needs for her space.

This year’s Utah and Salt Lake County Parade of Homes showcased just that, a more affordable home that looked fabulous!! Many times walking through a parade home you’re in love and awe of how over the top the builder and the designer went, of course those homes are usually in the million dollar range; not this year. This year many of the homes were right around $300,000 or below and still showcased that you can have an amazingly designed home without spending millions of dollars. Numerous homes used travertine tile, hand-scraped wood floors, and beautiful granite counter tops. When it came to finishes these builders used high end, but it did not push the home out of the affordable price range. These are all finishes that you can use in your home and you’d be surprised at how little it really does cost for such a huge impact as well raising you're homes resell value.

While at market we had the pleasure to meet Jackie Von Tobel an Interior Designer and author of two fantastic books “The Design Directory of Window Treatments” and “The Design Directory of Bedding.” Both of these books are wonderful to flip through when trying to decide how to dress your windows or bed. They offer hundreds of options that are beautifully illustrated and showcase the endless possibilities. Jackie also has her own line of fabrics and pillows, but they’re not just ordinary fabrics; they’re eco-friendly. All of her products are made in the U.S.A. using water-based dyes and are printed on all natural organic ground cloths. She was so much fun to talk to and was even kind enough to snap a picture with us. Thanks Jackie for sharing your books and new fabric line with us; and if you want to know more about her books, fabrics and pillows contact us.
